Towards that, we are generating telomere-2-telomere reference genomes and population-scale variation catalogues in partnerships with multiple Indigenous Australian communities. We are conducting a major research project into Indigenous Pharmacogenomics titled "Advancing Health Equity for Indigenous Australians through Pharmacogenomics".As a postdoctoral or research fellow focusing on pharmacogenomic research, you will play a pivotal role in conducting discovery research, developing innovative algorithms and software solutions for genomic data analyses, and performing empirical evaluations and benchmarking experiments. Through your contributions, you will enhance the utility and impact of NCIG genomic resources for the benefit of Indigenous Australians.We are seeking exceptional candidates with a track record of high-impact research in genomics, bioinformatics, and quantitative biology. You will have exceptional technical skills and be familiar with computational technologies, DNA sequencing platforms, and large-scale genomics data analysis. Join us in making a real impact on Indigenous health by pushing the boundaries of genomics research.Job Requirements:SELECTION CRITERIA:Awarded a PhD or be nearing completion of a PhD in relevant quantitative biology disciplines (e.g. pharmacogenomics, computational biology, bioinformatics, statistics, mathematics, population genomics and genetics).Records of research experience and output in relevant field resulting in publications, conference papers, reports or professional or technical contributions that give evidence of research potential.Expert knowledge of:DNA sequencing technologiesSequence alignments, genome assembly, and annotations of the genomeGenomic analysis workflowsVarious file formats and their utility in genomics data managementPublicly accessible genomics databases (NCBI and equivalent)Demonstrated experience in the use of:high-performance computing (HPC) and/or cloud-computingat least one high-level programming/scripting language (e.g. Python or R)software version control systems (e.g. GitHub)Functional knowledge or experience in the use SQL and/or NoSQL database systems, web services and data representations.Demonstrated capacity to communicate complex research concepts to technical and non-technical audiences, both in writing (manuscripts and other technical documents) and through oral presentation at seminars and conferences.Strong organisational skills with demonstrated ability to keep accurate records and prioritise tasks, exercising sound judgement to meet project timelines.Demonstrated ability to work independently and constructively, with minimal supervision, as part of a team comprising a diverse range of people and specialist expertise.A demonstrated understanding of equal opportunity principles and policies and a commitment to their application in a university context.The ANU conducts background checks on potential employees, and employment in this position is conditional on satisfactory results in accordance with the Background Checking Procedure which sets out the types of checks required by each type of position.Job Type: Fulltime
