About Us
At the Department of Cardiology, Heart Rhythm Services at The Royal Melbourne Hospital stands as the largest complex ablation centre in Australia.
We handle quaternary referrals from Melbourne and nationwide, performing over 1,000 ablation procedures annually.
Our extensive expertise spans Atrial Fibrillation, Ventricular Tachycardia, and Supraventricular Tachycardia Ablation, boasting exceptional success rates and the lowest published complication rates globally.
We also lead the Victorian state-wide cardiac genetic service for inherited heart rhythm disturbances.
Led by Professor Jonathan Kalman, our team is internationally recognized for pioneering heart rhythm research.
Professor Kalman has made significant contributions to understanding arrhythmias and their treatments, and his extensive publication record includes over 500 research articles in leading cardiology journals.
He is a sought-after international speaker and editorial board member for 12 major international journals.
About You
PhD or equivalent.
Demonstrable research experience in terms of publications and presentations at a national and/or international level in a relevant field.
Excellent communication skills and knowledge of all aspects of the research process.
Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary research team.
Your new role:
Make an independent high-quality contribution to research as a key member of the Arrhythmia Research team.
This includes planning and execution of research design, implementation and analysis, writing up results and outcomes dissemination.
Contribute to the research process, including literature review, concept and protocol development, ethics, and governance applications, data collection, data analysis, and knowledge dissemination and translation.
Support the arrhythmia research team with all existing and new clinical research studies within the Department of Cardiology at Melbourne Health.
These include investigator-initiated and commercial trials.
Current key projects include a series of randomised studies evaluating interventions to improve outcomes for patients with atrial fibrillation.
Many of these studies involve interventions to improve catheter ablation outcomes including procedural timing.
Studies include patients with depression, patients with obstructive sleep apnoea and patients at risk of cognitive impairment.
Work collaboratively across multiple research centres and across varied disciplines and with international collaborators.
Working under the supervision of the Chief Investigator and with the research team/s, the successful applicant will independently execute research projects.
Work with the Chief Investigator to identify research grant and publication opportunities, prepare submissions in related research areas and prepare and submit high quality academic publications.
Work in concert with a team of research nurses and coordinators ensuring effective communication.
Monitor, evaluate and participate in clinical research activities, including patient recruitment, data collection, documentation and careful maintenance of investigator site files in accordance with requirements.
