Come work at Australian National University on a new ARC Laureate Fellowship Project titled "Cities as Transformative Agents for Climate Safe Futures" awarded to Distinguished Prof. Xuemei Bai.We are looking to hire three outstanding Postdoc/Research Fellows to join this exciting new project that will kick off June 1st, 2024, at Fenner School of Environment & Society, Australian National University. We are casting a broad net to build an enthusiastic , collaborative, interdisciplinary research team, with expertise in inter- and, trans-disciplinary urban/sustainability science, complex system modelling (e.g. system dynamics and network modeling), spatial analysis, statistical analysis, field work in world cities etc. These positions will offer excellent opportunity for up and coming early career researchers aspiring to be next generation leaders in urban/sustainability science and policy. They will be research intensive, working closely with me and in an international network of collaborators and advisors. These positions will be up to 5 years initial appointment with generous remuneration packages, contingent funding afterward. The Position We are looking to appoint three academic staff at Academic Levels A (Postdoctoral Fellow) or B (Research Fellow). The levels of the appointments will be determined by the appointee's level of experience and expertise. The successful candidates will work within the Australian Research Council (ARC) Laureate Fellowship Project "Cities as Transformative Agents for Climate Safe Futures" awarded to Distinguished Professor Xuemei Bai. The project aims to build knowledge and identify strategies to bring about rapid, positive, and widespread transformations within and across cities towards zero-carbon, resilient futures. Working closely with Professor Bai, the successful candidates will play a pivotal role in addressing the four main components of the project: a) Develop archetypes of urban evolution and transformations; b) Explore how innovations in mitigation and adaptation practice can be scaled exponentially across cities; c) Reveal the behaviour of a networked system of cities, and explore pathways to build networks that enhance functional resilience to climate change; and d) Governing for transformation. The successful candidates are each expected to lead one of the first three themes, while collaborating on and contributing to other themes. Tasks may include: case studies in 4 international cities and a number of Australian cities, building conceptual and dynamic system models, literature review, surveys and structured interviews, policy analysis, co-supervising PhD, Masters and/or Honours students, co-producing high quality peer reviewed academic outputs, disseminating research findings to academic community, urban policy makers and practitioners. Ideal candidates will have outstanding research capability demonstrated by strong publication track record; capability and experience in conceptual and quantitative modelling e.g. system dynamics, agent-based, networked system modelling; statistical analysis; survey design and implementation; working in field with city level governments and other stakeholders; will be a strength.
