Why Your Role Matters: The Post-doctoral Fellow will work in close collaboration with members of both the "wet" and "dry" sections of different programs within the Kirby as well as a range of external collaborators including, but not restricted to, reference virology laboratories and public health units as well as Ministries of Health to perform phylogenetic analyses of sequence data sets derived from HIV and HCV.
This position will focus on the application of cutting-edge bioinformatic pipelines for the analysis and interpretation of viral sequence data linked to clinical data sets, to study the evolution and spread of the pathogens within populations undergoing various prevention interventions.
The Research Fellow will have a critical role in developing and synthesising molecular epidemiological outputs and to present these to a range of stakeholders.
The Post-Doctoral Fellow (H2Seq) position is within the Immunovirology and Pathogenesis Program and reports to Professor (Head) of the Immunovirology and Pathogenesis Program and has no direct reports.
Skills and Experience: PhD in molecular biology, computational biology, mathematics, biostatistics or related fields.
Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
Highly developed skills in genome sequence analysis, cluster analysis tools, phylogenetic techniques, and computational skills, especially in the context of monitoring evolving outbreaks.
Proven evidence of publications in reputable peer reviewed journals and proven ability to prepare research findings for presentation and attract research funding.
A track record of significant involvement with the profession and/or industry.
Demonstrated capacity to guide the work of post graduate students.
High level communication skills including with multidisciplinary teams, and the ability to work as part of a team.
Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
