Post-Doctoral Fellow (Biological Psychiatry)

Employment Type: Part - time (28 hours a week, flexible on days)
Duration: 2-Year Fixed Term (with possibility of extension, funding dependant)
Remuneration: $123K - $145K base prorated (+ 17% Superannuation and leave loading)
Visa: Full Australian working rights for the duration of the contract will be required
Location: Randwick, Sydney

Why this role matters
This is a unique opportunity for a Neuroscientist to carry out independent and team-based research within the field of Biological Psychiatry. Duties will entail wet-lab research activities, quantitative microscopy, and computational analysis. The successful candidate will join a small team and receive further training in transcriptomics, neuroanatomy, and bioinformatics relevant to the Neurobiology of Schizophrenia. The work will have an emphasis on Neuroinflammation in human brain and blood and involve studies using molecular, analytical and histological approaches including snRNA, immunohistochemistry and spatial transcriptomics.
The role will also involve creating scholarly impact by publishing in high impact Psychiatry Journals and Neuroscience Journals that are recognised by peers to advance our understanding of the Biological Basis of Schizophrenia and/or Bipolar Illness.
Who you are

A PhD in a related discipline, and at least 2 years Postdoctoral work experience.
Theoretical knowledge of neuroscience, neuroanatomy and immunology is required.
Working knowledge of molecular biology including the theories, principles and methods used is required.
Strong skills in statistical analysis, outlier detection, t-tests, two-way ANOVAs, ANCOVAs, correlations, regression, clustering, PCA analysis, pathway analysis is preferred
Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments through reading and sharing knowledge with mentor and team members.
Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
A track record of significant involvement and increasing profile in Biological Psychiatry both nationally and internationally.
