Your opportunity Port Authority of New South Wales is seeking a suitable candidate to join our Marine Operations team in Port Kembla as a Casual Port Officer.
The primary purpose of the Port Officer (PO) Casual position in Port Kembla is to assist with safety outcomes for the port. This includes carrying out pilot transfers, maintenance of response equipment and pilot vessels, checks on navigational aids, escorting ships in and out of the harbour, participating in emergency response (including oil spills, chemical spills, firefighting), completing security and environmental patrols and handling audit and inspection activities. You will receive approximately 12 weeks of on-the-job training. It is highly desirable for applicants to have experience in the Maritime field.
The role is based at Port Kembla reporting to the Harbour Master- Port Kembla & South Coast.

Undertake training to Port Officer level as requiredSupport pilot transport activities for vessel movementsAssist with the maintenance of the pilot cutters as requiredUndertake port patrols to inspect Port Authority's property and assetsHandle audit and inspection activitiesTest and maintain the emergency response equipmentParticipate in emergency response within the port including oil spills, chemical spills and firefightingPerform administration duties such as logging and reporting of shift activities, data entry and procurement of itemsImplement and continually improve Port Authority processes and policiesWhat you'll bring Highly developed written and oral communication and interpersonal skillsOutstanding teamwork skills and highly proactive team memberThe ability to work independentlyThe ability to work effectively under pressureExcellent customer serviceExcellent computer literacyA working knowledge of policies and procedures relevant to the nature of the workAn understanding of emergency response and the ability to provide appropriate actionTo apply for this role you must hold the following minimum qualifications and experience: Australian Citizen or Permanent ResidentGeneral Purpose Hand CertificateCoxswains certificate or NSW boating licence if coxswains certificate is not heldValid NSW Motor Vehicle LicenceMaritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) (or ability to obtain)Additionally, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Experience in the Maritime fieldMaster MED IIIFirst Aid certificateWhat matters most is that you're a strong team player with a deep sense of curiosity, who doesn't shy away from a challenge.
