Job Description
The Cutler Merz Policy and Strategy team supports governments and organisations to design, implement, and comply with constantly evolving energy policy. The consultant role is to apply a deep understanding of the Australian energy regulatory environment to provide detailed policy analysis and advice to Cutler Merz clients.
Consultant Role Responsibilities Provide regulatory, strategic, and technical advice to develop policy and strategy solutions for complex energy problems. Apply qualitative and quantitative analytical strength to solve problems accurately and quickly, with the ability to derive and communicate insights and recommendations, backed by clear evidence. Develop and run analysis with energy market models. Manage projects to meet client objectives on time and within budget. Deliver high quality, client-facing reports and deliverables. Work in a collaborative team environment, and build trusted relationships with clients, management, and project teams. Develop business opportunities by establishing external professional networks (e.g., through client contacts). Qualifications and Experience Tertiary qualifications at degree level in a scientific or policy field. At least 3 years of experience in a policy and strategy role (ideally in the energy sector or a related technical field). Good working knowledge of the energy sector in Australia, including current challenges of the sector and an understanding of how the sector needs to transition. Experience with policy settings surrounding energy systems (i.e., generation, distribution, and transmission networks) and technologies. Strong understanding of relevant legislative and regulatory frameworks (including the National Electricity Rules). Ability to bring together strong analytical skills with an understanding of client needs and the broader strategic and political context. Collaboration and engagement - ability to find the best solution by accommodating and balancing multiple and often competing objectives and interests. Comfortable with uncertainty and capable of applying a flexible and adaptive approach to meet project objectives. Strong report writing skills to deliver key outputs to clients. Creativity and curiosity - open to exploring new and innovative approaches to problem solving and responsive to emerging trends. Skill at breaking down complex issues and using information from diverse sources to support evidence-based policy. Strong verbal, written communication, and presentation skills, including presenting qualitative and quantitative data. A deadline orientation, with strong project management expertise. A personable and professional approach, with excellent communication and client skills. Applications open on 28 October 2024 and close on 29 November 2024.
