The Policy Adviser is a member of the Leader's Office (LO) Policy and Parliamentary Team, and reports to the Senior Policy and Parliament Manager.
The key responsibility of the role is to advise the Office of Adam Bandt MP on major policy projects relating to the strategic objectives as set by the Australian Greens Party Room, particularly in the climate and energy portfolio.
The role will require primary research, stakeholder engagement and management, collecting supporting data and proof points, writing policy briefs and public facing documents and working closely with all members of the Leaders Office Policy and Parliament Team as well as policy advisers in other Greens MP's offices.
This role is expected to be responsive to issues of the day and strategic priorities as it relates to matters in the climate and energy portfolio, as well as broader matters as needed.
There is additional supplementary work done on an ad-hoc basis, including contributions to team tactics and a contribution to the daily functioning of the electorate office.
ResponsibilitiesMajor policy projects Undertake work as part of the Leader's Office Policy and Parliament team, including by:Conducting reactive research and fact checking in relation to emerging political eventsConducting proactive research and support for new policy announcementsCoordinating positions with others members of the Greens Party room and their relevant advisersClimate and energy policy Provide strategic advice to the Leader and Leader's Office on emerging policy matters in the climate and energy portfolio, including conducting related researchDrafting briefs, media releases, reports and associated documentation on climate and energy policy mattersWork with key stakeholders on climate and energy policy matters, including both parliamentary and third party organisationsOther duties As directed, including contributions to team tactics and a contribution to the daily functioning of the electorate office.Required Skills & Experiences Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skillsRelevant prior experience and expertise working in a policy or parliamentary setting, preferably on climate and energy policy or similar portfolio areaCapacity to comprehend complex issues, think strategically and adapt to changing circumstances, and exercise sound political judgement.Highly developed skills in preparing written content and demonstrated experience in translating policy content into resources for media, website and speechesExcellent organisational skills, including demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and work to tight deadlines in a dynamic environmentSound knowledge and understanding of Australian Greens' policies and the Australian political landscapeUnderstanding of and commitment to the values of the Australian GreensThe position is offered at an EOB classification - base level and ESA to be determined based on experience.
