An office unlike any otherA team that aims high0.5FTE fixed term part time role until January 2027About the Opportunity Join the Office of the Lord Mayor as a Policy Advisor, where you can be part of shaping the strategic direction of the City of Adelaide. In this dynamic, fast-paced, and political environment, you will engage with internal and external stakeholders to influence policies, identify initiatives, and provide advice that aligns with Council's goals. Your ability to conduct high-level research and offer informed guidance will be crucial in driving impactful decisions and beneficial outcomes for the community.
As a Policy Advisor, you will provide research and policy support to the Lord Mayor, and liaise with Elected Members, Administration, and the community as necessary. Your responsibilities will include undertaking comprehensive research, preparing briefings, and compiling high-quality talking points under tight deadlines. You will also coordinate with Local, State, and Federal elected representatives and officials to address a wide range of issues and opportunities, ensuring cohesive and effective policy implementation of Council goals and strategies.
In this role, you will build and maintain professional relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies and institutions. You will work both autonomously and as part of a team to support the Lord Mayor to undertake her duties, to progress Council business, and respond to community enquiries. Additionally, you may independently manage special projects and events, providing strategic, political, and governance advice to the Lord Mayor in their civic leadership responsibilities.
About You To be successful in this role you will have:
Demonstrated experience undertaking high-level research and providing policy advice at a strategic level.Ability to analyse politically sensitive information and formulate measured responses which minimise risk exposure.Proven experience in the development of a range of professional documents, including but not limited to, correspondence, presentations, submissions, briefing papers and reports.Demonstrable experience in working in a high profile and often sensitive and political environment requiring professionalism, diplomacy and confidentiality; and significant ability to work independently with minimal direction and collaboratively in a team environment involving tight deadlines.The ability to build and maintain cross program relationships will be critical to strategy and policy development.A commitment to internal and external customers demonstrated through the provision of timely, reliable and expert advice on matters within area of responsibility.An understanding of political processes and protocols for Federal, State and Local Government.About Us Located in the geographic heart of Kaurna Country, the City of Adelaide celebrates its cultural heritage, unique natural surrounds and structures its footprint in a way that allows it to adapt to the changing needs of the community and a dynamic global landscape.
