We act for humanity.About the roleThe External Engagement team is responsible for a centralised external engagement and social policy function for Australian Red Cross. As Adviser – Policy, you will support the development of robust and evidence-based policy and humanitarian diplomacy advice on matters of interest to Australian Red Cross as it fulfills its mandate to prevent and respond to humanitarian crises including natural disasters, armed conflict and other large-scale emergencies. This role will focus on the intersection between climate change and emergency services, including climate adaptation, mitigation and preparedness as part of a holistic approach to the disaster management continuum.You will seek input from subject matter experts within and external to the organisation, undertake desk-top research drawing on available data and evidence, and conduct cost, risk and benefit analysis to arrive at defensible policy positions. Your work will help to position Australian Red Cross to advocate for policy change that will help bring people and communities together in times of need, building on community strengths.What you will bringSound discipline knowledge gained through experience in policy development with a focus on climate mitigation, adaptation and preparedness.Strong understanding of government and public sector policy processes.Demonstrated technical knowledge and expertise in public policy advice and/or development with a focus on climate-related disasters and emergencies.High level of knowledge and skills in information and data analysis to draw evidence-based conclusions.Ability to support the development of cost, benefit and risk analysis, to arrive at preferred policy and advocacy positions.Well-developed collaboration and engagement skills, drawing on a diverse range of skills and experience to inform policy advice and input to humanitarian diplomacy approaches.Benefits that act for you, while you act for humanityFinancial wellbeing: In addition to your salary, you can take advantage of salary packaging that could provide you with a great way to reduce the amount of tax you pay - and get more from your salary.
