About the role: This is an exciting opportunity to progress your career and obtain experience working as a Police Lawyer within Victoria Police. Victoria Police's Legal Services Department is enhancing its advocacy response in an effort to meet the expansion of court networks and jurisdictions across Victoria.
Victoria Police is seeking to meet this demand with a team of enthusiastic, skilled and dedicated Police Lawyers to prosecute a range of complex family violence intervention order matters across multiple court jurisdictions. As the successful applicant, you will need to demonstrate an ability to handle busy court lists and to manage competing priorities effectively. This role offers an opportunity to tailor your skills to an array of matters that vary in complexity.

Your duties will include: Appearing as an advocate, caseload management and providing legal advice/information to a range of clients in the areas of family violence, criminal prosecutions, civil law, and other areas as directed. Developing and maintaining collaborative relationships within Victoria Police. Working with internal and external stakeholders across agencies to ensure cooperative and proactive approaches to addressing community harm. Regularly attending and appearing in the Magistrates' Court, and Children's Court jurisdictions. Managing cases and the prosecution of family violence intervention orders, criminal related matters, firearms applications and licensing issues matters on behalf of Victoria Police. Attending court where you will be required to interview affected family members, affected persons (victims), respondents and witnesses. Liaising with legal representatives and court staff. Providing support and assistance to Senior and Supervising Lawyers in the management of more complex cases. You will also be required to provide professional guidance to Legal Support Officers as directed by your senior managers.  Ability to work in a team and in a developing and emerging work environment. A high level of resilience and emotional intelligence. As the successful applicant, you will have: Admission to practice as an Australian Lawyer, with an unrestricted practising certificate. Requirements and relevant information: 1 x Full time, fixed term until 30/06/2025 The salary range for a VPS3 role is $ $74,580 to $90,558 (covering salary ranges VPSG 3.1 and VPSG 3.2). Although it is standard practice for selected candidates to commence at the base of the salary range, genuine consideration will be given to a commencement salary within the available range that is commensurate with the successful candidate's knowledge, skills and experiences. This will be subject to negotiations with the Hiring Manager in the course of the selection process and may include the provision of evidence of a higher income and/or supporting documentation (as required). The location of the advertised position is Dandenong Prosecutions Unit, 50 Langhorne Street, Dandenong 3175. While the initial work location for this position is the Dandenong Prosecutions Unit, you will be required to undertake work at all courts within the Dandenong Court region. As a member of the Legal Services Department you will be located, on selection, at a specific office within a Division for a particular advertised opportunity. However given occasional legal service demand issues you may be required at times to undertake varied work within the Department. This supports the Departments commitment to a flexible and deployable legal workforce and professional development opportunities in a range of legal domains. This position may require you to work outside normal hours. Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa. The successful applicant will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening. As a member of the Legal Services Department you will be located, on selection, at a specific office within a Division for a particular advertised opportunity. However, given occasional legal service demand issues you may be required at times to undertake varied work within the Department.
