Austin Health is looking for an experienced Plastic Surgeon to join our team. Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across three campuses in the north-east of Melbourne (Australia) and state-wide. We are world-renowned for our research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.

We are the largest Victorian provider of training for specialist physicians and surgeons, and internationally recognised centre of excellence in hospital-based research. About the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Unit

The Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Unit specialises in microsurgical reconstruction for breast, head and neck cancer, as well as upper limb reanimation in tetraplegic patients. The unit manages a large number of general plastic surgery cases, including elective and post-traumatic hand surgery, facial trauma, melanoma and provides a broad reconstructive service to all specialties. There are more than 2,300 surgical procedures performed a year, including 100+ free flaps.

The unit consists of 15 attending Plastic Surgeons, 2 local Accredited Registrars, 2 local Unaccredited Registrars, 1 Fellow and 3 Residents.

Key accountabilities in the role include:

Ensuring all theatre lists/clinics have appropriate cover, across all sites where Austin Health provides plastic & reconstructive surgery services, including the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital.

Demonstrate a commitment to high quality patient care.

Demonstrate a commitment to working as a team member with peer medical, junior medical, nursing and other clinical staff to provide efficient, safe and quality care across the continuum.

Demonstrate a commitment to teaching, training and research.

About you

To be successful in this role, you'll bring with you:

Registration with the Medical Board of Victoria (AHPRA).

Fellowship Certificate (Specialist Medical College).

Completed specialist training in accredited Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery program including exit exams.

Demonstrated clinical practice at a high standard.

Well-developed communication, negotiation, and presentation skills in English.

Prior experience in microsurgery.

Experience in clinical research desirable.
