Your Opportunity: We are now looking for a full-time Plant Mechanic based in Tenterfield, NSW.
Reporting to the Fleet Coordinator, this role is responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of Council plant and equipment to ensure consistent fleet operations. More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Diagnosing and rectifying hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical faults in plant, vehicles, and equipment Conducting routine servicing and preventative maintenance to maximize fleet availability Fabricating and performing basic welding as required for repairs Ensuring all work adheres to safety standards and industry best practices Assisting with workshop housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean and safe work environment Providing technical guidance to apprentices and supporting workshop team members Keeping accurate daily records of work performed Collaborating with operators and drivers to address defect reports and service needs Monitoring parts availability and making recommendations for replacements Performing both workshop and field-based repairs across the Council's fleet Ensuring compliance with all relevant NSW Safework guidelines and regulations Participating in safety drills and adhering to manual handling requirements You'll be great in this role because: To qualify, you will need a relevant qualification in plant or motor mechanic trades and demonstrated experience in maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of a wide range of vehicles, plant, and equipment. A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a mechanical or maintenance role will also be essential. Additionally, the following is required:
Competency and proficiency in gas and electric welding techniques (or ability to obtain) Basic computer literacy skills Understanding of safety standards regarding exposure to water, sewer, and waste Construction Induction (White) Card Current Class C Australian driver's licence Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
Operation of earthmoving plant, basic fabrication, and welding skills Crane and forklift certification, or the ability to obtain Confined Spaces accreditation and current first aid certification NSW Class LR, MR, HR, or HC driver's licence or equivalent, with truck operation experience RMS Inspection Certification As our ideal candidate, you will possess strong problem-solving abilities, the capacity to work independently, and the ability to guide and support apprentices and team members.
