We are now looking for a full-time Plant Mechanic based in Tenterfield, NSW.
Reporting to the Fleet Coordinator, this role is responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of Council plant and equipment to ensure consistent fleet operations. More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Diagnosing and rectifying hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical faults in plant, vehicles, and equipmentConducting routine servicing and preventative maintenance to maximize fleet availabilityFabricating and performing basic welding as required for repairsEnsuring all work adheres to safety standards and industry best practicesAssisting with workshop housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean and safe work environmentProviding technical guidance to apprentices and supporting workshop team membersKeeping accurate daily records of work performedCollaborating with operators and drivers to address defect reports and service needsMonitoring parts availability and making recommendations for replacementsPerforming both workshop and field-based repairs across the Council's fleetEnsuring compliance with all relevant NSW Safework guidelines and regulationsParticipating in safety drills and adhering to manual handling requirementsTo qualify, you will need a relevant qualification in plant or motor mechanic trades and demonstrated experience in maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of a wide range of vehicles, plant, and equipment. A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a mechanical or maintenance role will also be essential. Additionally, the following is required:
Competency and proficiency in gas and electric welding techniques (or ability to obtain)Basic computer literacy skillsUnderstanding of safety standards regarding exposure to water, sewer, and wasteConstruction Induction (White) CardAdditionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
Operation of earthmoving plant, basic fabrication, and welding skillsCrane and forklift certification, or the ability to obtainConfined Spaces accreditation and current first aid certificationNSW Class LR, MR, HR, or HC driver's licence or equivalent, with truck operation experienceRMS Inspection CertificationAs our ideal candidate, you will possess strong problem-solving abilities, the capacity to work independently, and the ability to guide and support apprentices and team members. You will also be adaptable, reliable, and committed to maintaining a safe and professional working environment.
