About the Division / Team Our Hunter Valley network primarily services the Hunter Valley coal chain – the world's largest thermal coal export operation – by providing an efficient and reliable rail transportation system between mines and the Port of Newcastle. We manage the movement of around 250 trains per day on our network. Around half of these being coal trains and the other half comprised of passenger services, as well as grain, general intermodal, and other bulk freight trains.
About the Opportunity As a Plant Mechanic at ARTC Goulburn, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliable and safe operation of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and equipment used in the railway environment. Your responsibilities will include inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and upgrading mobile plant, equipment, and vehicles. You will also have the opportunity to operate plant and equipment, providing essential support to ARTC plant and equipment both on and off-track machines network-wide when required.
Responsibilities: Inspect, maintain, repair, upgrade, and overhaul equipment using various testing equipment, meters, powered and non-powered tools.Install new and upgraded systems on plant and vehicles, adhering to safety codes, standards, and company policies.Undertake field service work and workshop repairs as instructed.Construct, maintain, and repair mechanical systems for project installations and specialized equipment.Assist in the management of plant spares inventory.Work safely and cooperatively, ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, safety, and environmental regulations.Maintain workshop and office facilities in a safe and organized manner.Participate in projects and carry out other duties as requested.This role is predominantly workshop-bound, but there is potential that you will be required to work away from home on a variable shift roster with extensive travel. About You To ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate:
Essential Selection Criteria: Possess a relevant trade certificate or qualification related to the position, demonstrating a strong foundation of technical skills.Demonstrate experience and proficiency in working with hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electronic systems, showcasing a versatile skill set.Proven track record in maintaining heavy rail and earthmoving equipment, highlighting practical experience in the field.Exhibit self-motivation and a proactive approach to tasks, with a genuine drive to excel in the role.Show unwavering dedication to Workplace Health and Safety principles, ensuring the safety of oneself and others in all work activities.Possess the ability to work both independently and as a valuable team member, contributing to a cooperative and productive work environment.Hold a valid Class C driver's license, heavier class desirable but not necessary, indicating the ability to operate vehicles required for the role.Maintain a current forklift license, demonstrating the capability to operate forklift equipment safely.Desirable Selection Criteria: Exhibit an understanding of rail safe-working systems and principles, enhancing awareness of safety within the rail environment.Hold an HR (Heavy Rigid) driver's license, which may be advantageous for certain tasks or responsibilities.Previous experience in a warehouse setting would be beneficial, providing additional insight into inventory and materials management.What we offer You will have access to a variety of benefits working with us, including but not limited to:
