The roles are part of our Land Use Planning Division and provide high level planning advice and expertise to the Western Australian Planning Commission, Director General, Assistant Director General – Land Use Planning, Executive Planning Director, and other internal and external stakeholders.The Planning Director, Metropolitan South, provides strategic leadership, direction and day-to-day management for a geographical area that encompasses nine local government areas that cover the southern portion of the Metropolitan region. The Director oversees two specialist teams that undertake and are involved in strategic and statutory planning matters and reporting these to the Western Australian Planning Commission within specified timelines. They are also regularly required to report and prepare information on other matters for other public sector agencies or to the Minister for Planning. Active case management of these processes is required, as well as strong liaison with the community, local government, state government agencies and industry.The Planning Director, Regional South, provides strategic leadership, direction and day-to-day management to the Regional South directorate with respect to strategic and statutory planning proposals and applications and associated matters. This role also manages all aspects of the operational performance of the program area to ensure administration of statutory functions is undertaken in compliance with the relevant legislation or regulatory framework. The Regional South directorate provides services to stakeholders covering the coastal local government areas from the Shire of Harvey to the Shire of Esperance, and two inland local government areas of the Shires of Collie and Plantagenet.Role RequirementsTo be successful for this position, you will need to demonstrate:An accredited tertiary degree qualification in Urban and Regional Planning and/or Development (or equivalent).Detailed working knowledge of the Western Australian planning system and WA planning framework with a strong understanding of complex structure planning proposals.Extensive experience working in the Western Australian planning system, or transferable experience in similar systems, including demonstrated experience in both the implementation and design of the planning framework (statutory and strategic planning).Proven ability to respond to complex planning proposals and work proactively and collaboratively with stakeholders to achieve planning outcomes.Behaviours within the leadership context of Leading Leaders.As a senior member of the organisation, you will champion the Department's values, fostering integrity, respect, collaboration, professionalism and innovation within an environment of transparency and accountability.These are permanent full-time positions, with the Metropolitan role based at 140 William Street, Perth, and the Regional role based in either the Albany or Bunbury office.
