About the Role We are looking for a visionary leader who is passionate about transforming urban spaces to join our Creative Melbourne branch in the Business, Economy and Activation division as the Place Activation Lead. This senior role offers a unique opportunity to shape the city's Place Activation Program, leading a dynamic team to develop and deliver innovative and creative led place activation strategies that transform the city's public life.
You'll spearhead bold and creative initiatives, bringing tactical urbanism to life with quick, impactful, and cost-effective projects that energise Melbourne's public spaces. Collaborating across departments and forging strategic partnerships, you'll champion a world-class approach to place activation while fostering connections that drive support, funding, and credibility for the program.
If you're a seasoned expert in placemaking and activation, with a proven track record in urban innovation, leadership, and creative project delivery, this role is your opportunity to make a lasting impact on Melbourne's vibrant cityscape.

What you will bring to the Role A relevant tertiary qualification in Placemaking, Urban Design or City Activation coupled with extensive experience of working creatively in the public realm.Significant leadership experience, preferably in a political or highly complex organisation, with a proven ability to navigate projects and initiatives in these environments. Demonstrated leadership skills, including leading by example to foster a constructive culture, coaching teams to high performance, and effectively managing conflict and underperformance.Demonstrated experience in delivering new work programs, conducting program reviews, and leading city activation programs both in Australia and internationally.Development and maintenance of a diverse range of successful stakeholder relationships in complex situations.Demonstrated experience in delivering impactful cross-sector partnerships, with a strong ability for strategic thinking and creative problem-solving.Leading cross-disciplinary teams that function effectively in large organisations in a national, state or local government context.Effectively lead an impactful, well governed and stakeholder focused Business Precinct Association Program.Coordinate the review of relevant existing programs and policies to effectively and efficiently activate the municipality through on street trading, permitting and busking.What we can offer you at City of Melbourne Attractive Remuneration & Benefits: Excellent pay package with a range of exciting benefits.
