THE OPPORTUNITY:
Reporting to the Group Advisor - Metallurgy and working closely with multidisciplinary teams, the Lead Project Metallurgist will play a critical role in leading and delivering high-quality metallurgical study outcomes that inform project feasibility, design, and investment decisions, whilst focusing on developing optimal processing solutions to maximise the economic value of mineral resources.
This is a permanent full-time role based at our beautiful West Perth office, near the City West train station.
Responsibilities include:
Leading the metallurgical and processing components of study phases, including scoping, pre-feasibility, feasibility, and detailed engineering.
Developing and optimizing process flowsheets, test work programs, process design criteria and mass balances.
Coordinating and managing metallurgical test work programs conducted by internal teams and external laboratories.
Analysing metallurgical test work data to identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reductions, and performance enhancements.
Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of metallurgical and process inputs with overall project objectives and timelines.
Preparing and delivering reports, technical documents, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
Acting as the key interface between Pilbara Minerals and external engineering houses, ensuring that all process engineering deliverables are completed to the required standard, on time, and within budget.
Providing technical guidance and oversight during process design reviews, HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) studies, and risk assessments.
Assisting the wider project group with the design and commissioning of new projects, providing metallurgical and process expertise.
Leveraging your extensive experience (10+ years) in mineral process engineering to provide innovative solutions and best practices that enhance operational efficiency and product quality.
Maintaining an up-to-date understanding of industry trends, advancements, and regulations related to mineral processing and lithium extraction.
ABOUT YOU:
Tertiary qualifications in Extractive Metallurgy, Metallurgical, Chemical or Process engineering; a postgraduate professional qualification is highly regarded.
At least 10 years' relevant experience with mineral processing plant design, with a demonstrated track record of successful project execution.
An in-depth understanding of mineral processing, project evaluation, and technical leadership.
Experience in lithium spodumene is highly regarded.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Knowledge of statutory safety requirements relevant to the processes.
Ability to effectively manage interpersonal relationships across multiple functions in a diverse work environment.
Strong commitment to safety and the environment.
Highly proficient in MS Office.
Ability to travel as needed.
