Day-in-a-Life of our Startup Operations Manager Phyllome builds sustainable and secure food systems using robotics, genetics and artificial intelligence. We're a new company and you'll be joining a small and growing team to look after business and project operations of our headquarters in Alexandria Sydney.
Working with a close and enthusiastic team you'll be required to manage the day to day business operations of our flagship research and development facility in Alexandria Sydney. This is a multifaceted role which will require someone eager to get super involved in running a small business. Your role will cover broad categories including procurement, supplier relationships, purchasing, site management, workplace safety and basic accounts.
As a digital first company you'll be encouraged to develop "no code" processes to improve our systems and streamline our operations. With extensive on the job training, our startup operations manager will be involved in every aspect of the company from scientific research, engineering development, procurement, farming operations, sales as an enabler to the various teams. The more efficient you can drive your processes the more efficient our organisation can run!
This is a full time and flexible hybrid role and we'll work with around you in developing a work schedule that works around your schedule, e.g. doing the school run.
Typical weekly tasks include: Working with engineering teams to identify suitable products, developing system level bill of materials and negotiating terms with suppliers Researching and engaging with new suppliers to identify novel components to solve specific problems in more efficient ways Managing day to day office duties to ensure we have sufficient consumables, that the laundry has been picked up, that our internet gets paid Managing inventory and storage of components and parts Experience in working in small teams to achieve big goals Demonstrable practical experience in setting up systems and operational workflows using online tools A nerdy interest in keeping things organised - virtually and physically It would be extra awesome if you also had... Previous experience working in a farm or in the broader food industry Higher education in a related field (e.g. project management, systems engineering, business) Skills developing online reporting and process automation workflows You are... Curious and creative with your approach Passionate about the future of food and keen to make a change in the world Disciplined and a self starter with good time management Positive and eager to roll up your sleeves As Phyllome expands to build larger and more closed environment farms there is an opportunity for a successful and driven startup operations manager to move into more senior operations roles and to lead a team in business management, operations, accounts, procurement.
