Heavy Diesel Mechanic / Maintenance Fitter Phibion is the global leader in specialised tailings dewatering technology. Our uniquely patented MudMaster safely dewaters mineral tailings using Accelerated Mechanical Consolidation (AMC) Technology to increase density and strength in the tailings. There is now an opportunity for an enthusiastic Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Australia, responsible for the completion of repair and maintenance activities and operational support in the Western Australia State (Collie, Laverton and other sites across WA).
Position Qualifications and Experience:
Australian recognised Heavy-Duty Trade Certificate with post trade experience. Preferably Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology (AUR31120). Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in an isolated and remote environment. Ability to work and seek out work opportunities without continuous direct supervision. Previous post trade Caterpillar experience in a field service environment. Demonstrate strong safety values. Ability to organise work teams and delegate tasks. Extensive diagnostic and fault-finding skills. Must have Dogging & Rigging and Forklift ticket. Must have a minimum of LR Drivers Licence. Caterpillar product knowledge and maintenance experience. Experience and understanding of hydraulic components and their functioning: hydrostatic pumps, proportional controllers, drive motors. Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Work with the Maintenance Manager - Global Operations in the execution of the maintenance schedule for the MudMaster fleet deployed in Western Australia. Proactive interaction with site managers, site supervisors and machine operators to understand machine mechanical issues and use this information as the starting point of the root cause and fault-finding process. Diagnose and repair heavy vehicle automotive, mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems. Disassemble and reassemble components and mechanical systems. Completion of Maintenance service schedule for MudMaster, Earth moving equipment (Bulldozers / Excavators) and Light Vehicles, as per OEM maintenance procedures and recommendations. Generate and complete reports for maintenance scheduled and break/fix works. Assisting our Operations Staff in raising services requests for equipment repairs and performing troubleshooting with Head Office staff if required. Assist Maintenance Manager Engineer in the search of potential service and spare parts suppliers in the region of operation. Perform stock counting and report inventory stock levels for minimum, critical, and rotables spares for WA sites. Provide updates to Maintenance and Manufacturing Management. Maintains maintenance service requests backlog of work orders awaiting scheduling in accordance with their priority limits with an estimated completion date. Review status for maintenance work orders. Knowledge and Skills:
Trade qualification as a Heavy Diesel Mechanic. Unrestricted Australian Working Rights. Demonstrated experience working on heavy diesel machinery. Experience working on Heavy Road Transport. Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic and electrical problems. Use of hand and power tools as well as workshop equipment. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics. Excellent problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently. Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment. Commitment to workplace safety. Computer and Digital Literacy: proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications. Usage of tablets and similar devices for issuing reports and technical information to Head Office and Operational Team on site. Normally a Monday to Friday however some weekend work may be required.
