About The Role We are seeking a skilled Data Engineer to join our Digital Services team. The PHI Data Engineer plays a crucial role in developing and optimizing data engineering processes within the Primary Health Insights (PHI) platform. This involves creating and maintaining data pipelines, transformation scripts, and models to support data ingestion and processing. The role requires collaboration with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure data solutions meet business needs and performance standards. The engineer is responsible for troubleshooting data issues, enhancing existing tools, and supporting the adoption of data engineering practices across the organization. By leveraging their expertise, the PHI Data Engineer helps to improve data accessibility and usability, ultimately contributing to better healthcare outcomes.
This role will be offered on a full-time, Maximum-term contract to 30 June 2025 and offers the flexibility to work from home and office. Key Tasks and Responsibilities: Lead and Manage Data Engineering Tasks: Oversee and execute data engineering tasks to support operational and project activities across the PHI Team. Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work with the PHI Team, PHNs, vendors, and other users to identify, clarify, and document business requirements for data engineering. Translate Requirements: Convert business requirements into detailed data engineering solution requirements in collaboration with business analysts. Develop Data Solutions: Create or modify data pipelines, data models, and processing scripts to meet agreed solution requirements. Ensure Quality: Test and remediate data engineering products to ensure they meet quality and performance standards before deployment. Resolve Issues: Investigate and address data engineering-related issues reported by PHI users, developing effective solutions or workarounds. Support User Needs: Ensure that data engineering products are fit for purpose and compatible with user needs and capabilities. Adhere to Best Practices: Conduct all activities in accordance with adopted methods, processes, and industry standards. Provide Documentation and Training: Prepare technical and non-technical documentation, including training materials, and provide direct support to PHNs and other users. Engage with the Community: Participate in the PHI Data & Analytics Community of Practice, maintaining relationships with data engineering staff and supporting the adoption of PHI tools and methods. About You To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following selection criteria: Essential Experience and Education: Tertiary degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Commerce, or a related field, or equivalent industry certifications and qualifications. Demonstrated experience in data analysis or data engineering, preferably within a healthcare context. Proficiency in at least one modern data engineering scripting language such as SQL, Python, or R. Experience with Microsoft data engineering tools and platforms, including SQL Server, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure Databricks, Power BI. Strong understanding of data modelling principles, including database schema design and data warehouse concepts. Experience working with industry-standard project management methodologies or frameworks (e.g., Agile, PRINCE2, PMBoK). Preferred Knowledge and Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with stakeholders at all levels. Demonstrated research, analytical and problem-solving skills. Prior experience using a work or project management tool (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, Microsoft Project, Asana, etc.).
