Phd Scholarship: Prevention Strategies For Breast Cancer-Related Lymphoedema

Details of the offer

Company Description The PhD position sits within an exercise oncology and cancer survivorship research team, within the School of Health Sciences and Social Work, Griffith Health.
The position requires a qualified and motivated individual, committed to achieving research excellence cancer survivorship.
Breast cancer-related lymphoedema (BCRL) is a painful, chronic, progressive, and incurable condition.
One in 5 people develop lymphoedema following breast cancer and live with its significant, adverse physical, psychological, and economic-related burden.
BCRL management aims to arrest progression, but access is restrictive, inequitable and costly.
Preliminary evidence has identified exercise and compression as potential BCRL prevention therapies.
This project will evaluate the efficacy of current usual care plus potential BCRL prevention therapies versus usual care alone (multi-state, randomised controlled trial) for people diagnosed with breast cancer.
It will also quantify the health impacts (such as pain, fatigue, infection, anxiety and depression, physical function, work ability, relationships, overall quality of life) of adding lymphoedema preventive strategies to usual care alone.
Outcomes of this project are expected to improve standard breast cancer care.
