TGI Summary We have an exciting Scholarship opportunity for a full-time PhD candidate to undertake research on the impact of post sepsis syndrome on domains of life, healthcare access and support needs of survivors and their families.
Despite sepsis affecting 49 million people globally each year and causing 11 million deaths, most health services and research has focused on the acute illness.
There has been little attention paid to sepsis survivorship that provides culturally appropriate, holistic family centred care after hospital discharge.
The research will involve a range of mixed methods, including surveys, interviews and focus groups.

The successful candidate will have strong interest in sepsis and post sepsis care, and mixed methods research.
A sound understanding of qualitative research methods and thematic analysis, and experience in conducting interviews would be an advantage.
They will be enthusiastic, well-organised, and have excellent oral and written communication skills, as evidenced by publications and conference presentations, including in peer-reviewed journals.
An ability to work autonomously and to be self-directed in learning, as well as contributing to team activities and discussions, will be necessary for the successful completion of this PhD.
Experience in conducting scoping and systematic reviews is desirable.
Eligibility Applicants should hold an appropriate undergraduate, or Masters, degree in a related disciplines (e.g., public health, nursing, allied health, or medicine).
Candidates must hold a relevant first or second-class Honours degree or Masters degree with a substantial research component and/or be able to demonstrate equivalent research experience.
Applicants must be Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens or Australian permanent residents.
Award Amount The successful candidate will receive a living allowance stipend of $40,000 per annum for 4 years.
Students will be supported to apply for competitive scholarship funding.
Students will receive additional $2,000 learning and development funding from Critical Care Program to attend relevant conferences.
The successful candidate will also be supported to work up to 20 hours per week as a Research Assistant within the Critical Care Program.
