About the team
The Integrity Branch is an exciting, fast-paced area that is a key enabler for the Department of Industry, Science and Resources (DISR). The Branch is responsible for the provision and development of protective security, probity, fraud and corruption, and risk and integrity strategy. The Security Systems and Projects team is responsible for the maintenance of security systems and security-related projects across DISR sites Australia wide.
The opportunity
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to enhancing the department's security posture. You will support the department in delivering its mission by engaging across the organisation to build a strong security culture and secure working environment. Working in a team of security professionals will provide opportunities to expand your existing skillset and apply your broader knowledge.
What's in it for you?
We have several APS level 5, ongoing positions within the DISR Protective Security team in Canberra. The position will primarily focus on Personnel security, but the Protective Security Section also manages physical security, information security, and security strategy and investigations functions. You will be exposed to all elements of security and the team has a depth of knowledge the candidate will be able to learn from and prosper. The role provides opportunities to develop and apply subject matter expertise in security (including working with the National Intelligence Community), security systems, and project management.
Our ideal candidate
The successful candidates will have:

Strong written, oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and an ability to show good judgement, think strategically and logically.
Proven ability to plan and organise work and produce high-quality results.
Flexibility to manage a diverse workload and competing priorities, in a busy team environment, and achieve results.
The ability to build and maintain productive working relationships, including with colleagues, customers, and stakeholders at all levels.
A professional approach and high level of confidentiality.
Demonstrated understanding of risk management is highly desirable.
Demonstrated understanding of Personnel Security, including the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and pre-employment screening and/or security clearance vetting experience would be highly desirable.

Our department has a commitment to inclusion and diversity, with an ambition of being the best possible place to work. This reflects the importance we place on our people and on creating a workplace culture where each and every one of us is valued and respected for our contribution. Our ideal candidate adds to this culture and our workplace in their own way.
What you will do
Working within a small team, you will be involved in a variety of personnel security tasks including:

Conduct pre-employment suitability assessments, including the preparation of complex case assessments.
Engage with AGSVA on behalf of the department in relation to all security clearance requests.
Prepare temporary access and eligibility suitability paperwork for delegate approval.
Provide support and advice to a range of internal and external on personnel security matters.
Positively influence DISR's security culture.

Eligibility
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens. Positions require a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
