Permanent 0.6FTE Staff Specialist (Medical Lead) - Paediatrician - Integrated & Community Health - Western Sydney Local Health DistrictWestern Sydney Local Health District Permanent 0.6FTE Staff Specialist (Medical Lead) – Paediatrician Department of Integrated & Community Health The CFH Medical Lead/Community Paediatrician will have clinical leadership attributes, an understanding and commitment to a population approach to optimise child health outcomes and family wellbeing, excellent interpersonal skills, and excellent clinical skills in developmental and behavioural paediatrics.
Experience in working in paediatrics in community settings (in addition to that required for general paediatric training) and experience working with vulnerable populations and children and families with complex needs is required.
WSLHD Integrated and Community Health is home to seven Community Health Centres, providing care to families across 120 suburbs.
WSLHD serves a diverse and growing population, with some areas housing families at a greater socio-economic disadvantage than others.
Child and Family Health delivers family centred care, including but not limited to paediatric allied health, nursing and audiology.
Care is provided to vulnerable families, and strong ties are maintained with the Department of Communities and Justice, and other non-governmental organisations assisting in the care of these families.
The Community Paediatrician Service is a multi-disciplinary service within the department of Child and Family Health.
The Community Paediatrician service provides general paediatrics medical care of children who present with any child abuse/neglect issues, developmental and behavioural problems, including all forms of autism, and ADHD across 7 community locations.
The target population are vulnerable children 0-12 years, including those with child protection and trauma backgrounds, living in out of home care (OOHC), Aboriginal and refugee children and those with developmental disabilities.
The CFH Medical Lead/Community Paediatrician will work within the stream of Child & Family Health, Integrated & Community Health.
The appointment is to the WSLHD and while there will be primary community health centre sites, it may be a requirement of your employment to provide services at other facilities.
The CFH Medical Lead/Community Paediatrician works with CFH leadership team and senior Paediatricians across the district to deliver a whole of population approach and consistent, integrated community and developmental paediatric clinical care across community and outpatient departments in western Sydney.
The Child and Family Health is an integrated service consisting of medical, nursing and allied health professionals providing community based and non-admitted care.
The Child and Family Health services work closely with the Priority Population services including Youth Health, Aboriginal Health, Out of Home Care, and Child Protection services.
The Staff Specialist Child and Family Health is a critical role that provides medical leadership and clinical care to patients in a community setting.
The position will contribute to the development of innovative models of care to evolve the Community Paediatrician service to meet future health service delivery challenges.
The Medical Lead has a key role in coordinating the management of and transitions of care for all community-based patients and leading case conferences with the broader multidisciplinary care team.
The Lead proactively contributes to service planning, provides advice on clinical matters, and undertakes a range of clinical governance functions for the Child and Family Health stream.
This may include chairmanship of various committees; leading quality improvement, risk management and patient safety initiatives including quality improvement projects and clinical audits; incident management reviews and compliance reporting against KPIs.
The Staff Specialist may be required to provide other duties depending on clinical requirements within Western Sydney Local Health District as determined by the General Manager Integrated and Community Health.
Selection Criteria Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (Paediatric and child health division) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award/ Health Insurance Act 1997.
Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.
Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license (if applicable).Sound clinical knowledge in developmental and child health paediatrics in the community setting, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical /Dental Practitioner including:High level interpersonal and communication skills.Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision.Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.Experience working in paediatrics in community settings (in addition to that required for general paediatric training).Demonstrated experience in providing trauma informed care and working in developmental and behavioural paediatrics with vulnerable populations.Demonstrated experience in quality improvement and implementing new initiatives within a complex health setting.Working with Children Check Applicants must provide evidence of a Working with Children Check issued by the Office of Communities Commission for Children and Young People.
