We conduct interviews and onboarding virtually as part of being a remote-first company. About the Team The People Operations Specialist is part of the People team, which is on a mission to support Octopus' growth by attracting the best talent and supporting their career trajectory.
You will collaborate closely with the HR Business Partners, Talent Attraction, the VP People, Finance, Payroll, IT Operations, Security Operations, Legal, and Compliance teams.
Your Impact The People Operations Specialist is passionate about HR innovation, process optimisation, and leveraging technology and data to drive strategic HR initiatives and decision-making to support the organisation's strategic goals.
The role's key focus areas are employee engagement, onboarding and offboarding processes, HR systems and technology, data analysis and recommendations, policy and compliance, analytics and reporting.
As a small and agile People team, we value versatility and collaboration among our team members.
As we wear multiple hats, all team members are encouraged to utilise their generalist skills and experience to cross over into other areas of the People team and provide support whenever needed.
This collaborative approach ensures that we can effectively meet the evolving needs of Octopus Deploy and create a seamless and efficient People experience for all employees.
This People Operations role is an exciting opportunity to support and drive: Employee Engagement and Wellbeing: Develop and implement initiatives to enhance employee engagement and promote wellbeing.Employee Lifecycle Management: Manage and enhance the entire employee lifecycle, including onboarding, offboarding, and internal movements.HR Systems and Technology: Assist with the implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of HR systems, such as HRIS, gift management tools, and employee self-service portals.Data Analysis and Recommendations: Prepare regular and ad hoc reports on HR metrics, such as headcount, turnover, and diversity, to meet the needs of stakeholders and various departments.Policies and Compliance: Stay informed about global employment laws and regulations to ensure HR policies, procedures, and practices remain compliant across all regions.Compensation and Benefits: Assist in administering compensation programs, including salary benchmarking.We're looking for: Strong understanding of HR processes and best practices.Experience with HRIS systems and other HR-related technologies.Proficient in data analysis and reporting tools (e.g., Excel, HR analytics software).Knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.Compensation Octopus has an internally open and transparent system for compensation.
Any Octonaut can view the compensation for any role at any level.
This ensures people doing the same work with the same skill get paid the same.
The compensation for this role is: Level 3: Maturing: $120k AUD / $125k NZD, Performing: $140k AUD / $145k NZD
Benefits include a minimum of 25 days annual leave, up to 10 days of paid sick and carers leave, 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave with flexible return options, and stock options.

Step 1 [15-30m] – Introductory call with a Talent Acquisition team member to learn more about you and give you a high-level view of the role and life at Octopus.
Step 2 [45m] – ? Coffee chat interview with a hiring manager and another Octonaut, where we delve into your experience – you will receive a preview of the questions we might ask in advance.
We will also take time to answer your questions.
Step 3 [60m] – A panel inviting candidates to complete a take-home exercise and present it.

The final interview will be with the VP of People, focusing on getting to know you better and ensuring you complement the team and the company well.
