Your Opportunity: The Safe Haven program helps people who are in acute psychological distress and/or experiencing a suicidal crisis by providing rapid and compassionate care by mental health clinicians and peer workers in a non-clinical environment. Safe Haven can provide appropriate and immediate support, as well as referrals and information about a wide range of services in the community such as housing, relationship counselling and financial assistance, to help address the causes of distress. Your key responsibilities could include: Respond to referrals from internal and external support services. Provide emotional support to the Consumers by harnessing your own lived experience. Engage consumers and develop trusting and professional relationships. Provide Support for consumers presenting in Crisis with the available support of a Clinician. Be the liaison to the FWLHD and other appropriate supports for consumers. Create individual recovery and safety plans with consumers when required. Ensure documentation is completed and updated in line with Mission Australia protocols. Participate in special projects as agreed with the Program Coordinator/Area Manager Help connect the participants to meaningful activities and networks to keep them engaged. Co-facilitating and collaborating in planning peer-based groups. Requirements for Success: A personal lived experience of mental ill health and recovery in which you have experienced your own mental health challenges and utilised services from a mental health service or individual provider or: Lived experience of Suicidal crisis or a lived experience of caring for someone experiencing suicidal crisis or bereavement through suicide. knowledge of community activities, programs, and networks in the Broken Hill area Demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships. Ability to work rostered hours (evenings, weekends and public holidays as required) Computer literacy preferably using Windows. Current Drivers Licence Excellent communications skills both written and verbal. A qualification in Mental Health (desirable) or the willingness to work towards obtaining Cert IV in Mental Health Peer Work Strong integrity in the workplace and understanding of professional boundaries.
