As a Payroll Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring accurate and efficient payroll processing for the council. You'll be responsible for maintaining compliance with all relevant awards, enterprise agreements, and legislation. This role includes reconciling payroll data, preparing detailed reports, and managing payroll and timesheet systems to support seamless payroll operations.What You'll DoContribute to the annual wages and salaries budget by providing accurate payroll data and projections.Accurately reconcile, calculate, and finalize payroll files for approval, ensuring compliance with awards, enterprise agreements (EAs), and legislation.Calculate backpays for wage adjustments and submit them for management review and approval by the Cost Accountant.Interpret payroll-related awards, EAs, and legislation to ensure payroll processes meet all legal requirements.Process annual increments, step increases, and other salary adjustments in line with EAs and council policies.Reconcile leave balances, entitlements, and other payroll items to maintain accurate employee records.Oversee the timesheet submission system, ensuring precise recording, verification, and processing of hours worked.Perform fortnightly payroll reconciliations, aligning figures with general ledger accounts and reporting standards.Provide support as needed by stepping into the Cost Accountant role, assisting with broader financial tasks.What You'll BringExperience in payroll administration, including award and enterprise agreement interpretation.Proficiency in payroll software and financial management systems, with a focus on reconciliation and compliance.Strong understanding of payroll legislation, awards, and enterprise agreements.Proven ability to exercise discretion in the application of established practices and procedures.High attention to detail and accuracy in payroll processing and reconciliation.Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to meet strict deadlines.Ability to communicate effectively particularly in the resolution of routine and usual matters related to payroll queries.Why Join Us?At Port Lincoln City Council, we prioritize a supportive and inclusive environment where every team member can thrive.
