Payroll Officer (Hobart, Launceston, Devonport OR Burnie) Competitive salary negotiable for right candidate. Local Motor Group (LMG) is a dynamic and ever-evolving Tasmanian-based automotive dealership group. We employ 550+ staff across each of the major regions in Tasmania. THE POSITION

The Payroll Officer is a key position within the business reporting jointly to the Financial Controller and Group HR Manager. As a standalone position, the Payroll Officer is responsible for end-to-end processing of weekly payroll and for associated accounting functions ensuring company compliance with all taxation, superannuation, and other legislative obligations. This is a full-time, Monday to Friday position (38 hours per week). The physical location of the role has yet to be determined and will be dependent on the successful applicant's location. The position operates autonomously. There is potential for flexible start and finish times and some work from home (WFH) to be considered for the right candidate. As a business, we are actively pursuing systems improvement, including a move to a new payroll system (transitioning from Unipay to Aurion) and the introduction of an ESS. For the moment the role is quite transactional; however, with improvements made, we expect there to be scope for the Payroll Officer to expand their skills in either the HR or Accounting space, providing opportunity for further career development. Job tasks and responsibilities

Ensure the end-to-end processing of payroll is completed in a timely and accurate manner. Process timesheets. Process leave and allowances, and calculate and process termination payments. Review and reconcile payroll and accruals. Ensure accurate maintenance of employee records. Generate standard monthly and yearly payroll reports and customised ad hoc reports as requested. Manage the reconciliation and payment of payroll liability and entitlements. In collaboration with the Financial Controller, ensure company compliance with all taxation, superannuation, and other legislative obligations. Respond to queries relating to payroll, entitlements, and Award/policy. Assist with and/or lead payroll system initiatives and change implementation.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Previous experience in a similar role, providing payroll functions for a large employer (550+ employees). Working knowledge of payroll processes. Excellent organisational, prioritisation, and time management skills, with proven ability to meet established deadlines. Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and precision with numerical data. Ability to work independently and as part of a busy, high-performing team. The ability to maintain confidentiality, manage sensitive employee information, and correctly secure employee files. Ability to manage and contribute in a positive manner to change. Experience with payroll system UniPay. Experience with, or involvement in the implementation of a new payroll system.
