About the teamThe Departments Shared Services Hub is at the forefront of service delivery under the Whole-of-Government Shared Services Programme.
The Shared Services Hub is committed to delivering effective and efficient payroll services in line with Service Level Agreements negotiated with each client agency.
Working in the Hub presents a unique opportunity to be involved in innovative service delivery arrangements relating to both systems and processes - and to collaborate across teams and across the Public Sector.
The Hub utilises the Aurion HRMS.
Effective client engagement is an essential component of our service delivery, including, on occasion, in respect to the onboarding of new clients.
The opportunityThis is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team delivering payroll to a range of client agencies with over 14,000 payslips processed fortnightly.
The team adopts a collaborative and energetic approach to service delivery and places a strong emphasis on meeting and exceeding service levels.
You will experience a wide range of key tasks within the fortnightly pay cycle.
Teamwork both within each payroll team and across the Hub is encouraged.

Our ideal candidateOur ideal candidate will have the following capabilities:
Preferred experience in undertaking pay transactions on an automated pay management system.Ability to work in a team environment within and across the Hub.Ability to interpret employment legislation and provide accurate advice on employee entitlements.Well-developed written skills, communication and interpersonal skills.Good customer service skills, including initiative and the ability to foster effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels.Knowledge of and adherence to information management and privacy procedures.Sound organisational skills, including energy and drive to achieve results.Resilient with a positive attitude and responsive to changing and competing priorities.Values inclusion and diversity and demonstrates respect for APS Values.What you will doAs a Payroll Officer, you will:
Process a range of tasks related to the delivery of payroll and conditions of service including commencements, salary variations, calculation of allowances and final entitlements for cessations.Complete payroll transactions and related correspondence in accordance with the fortnightly payroll cycle.Understand and apply relevant APS legislation and terms and conditions including Enterprise Agreement policy and procedures.Provide clear, comprehensive and accurate verbal and/or written advice to stakeholders within appropriate timeframes regarding payroll matters.Maintain data in the Aurion payroll system and other platforms as required, in adherence with the Department's record management and privacy policies.Display teamwork and support other payroll officers, including across teams during busy periods.Participate and contribute to the continuous improvement of the payroll team processes and practices.EligibilityTo be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.
Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
NotesA merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies within 18 months from the date the vacancy was first advertised in the Gazette.
The department does currently offer flexible work opportunities for many roles.
This vacancy is ACT - Industry House based, although flexible or remote work arrangements may be considered.
