We are looking for a Payroll Managerto join our Melbourne team on a permanent basis. The role: This is an exciting opportunity to improve and support the Nous Finance Team's foundations for global growth. Reporting to the Head of Payroll and Commercial Operations, this broad role is mostly focussed on payroll operational elements, with occasional strategic work. Given the relatively small number of people in the payroll team, the role includes responsibility for direct payroll tasks (payroll processing, superannuation/pension, PRT etc.), particularly in times where leave coverage is required. The ideal candidate will have a service mindset and can effectively engage and communicate with stakeholders external to payroll and finance team.
Responsibilities Oversight and operational management of Payroll function across Australia, UK and Canada for c. 500 employees, including ensuring timely and accurate payroll and related statutory payments.Direct management of Payroll Coordinator and Payroll OfficerSystem & Process Improvement:Be instrumental in the continuous improvement of payroll processes and systems, ensuring a streamlined and accurate payroll function.Regularly review and audit the payroll system to ensure compliance with internal policies and relevant legislation.Identify process improvements opportunities - people, systems and operational processes – as well as design and implementation of changesAssist with system upgrades, new releases & configuration changes as needed.Compliance & Reporting:Ensure that all payroll-related functions are compliant with statutory requirements, including PAYG tax, payroll tax, superannuation, leave entitlements, termination pays, and other compliance issues. Generate weekly and monthly payroll reports and assist with ad-hoc reporting as required.Ensuring that all payroll calculations and entitlements are compliant with award conditions and contractual obligations.Provide support to internal stakeholdersAnd the practical experience and skills required: 5+ years' experience in a management role including responsibility for payroll and, ideally, other finance operationsDeep understanding of legislative requirements for Australian payroll, with UK and/or Canadian payroll knowledge advantageousSignificant team leadership / management experienceExperience with payroll systems for large entities essential. In particular, the following knowledge and experience would be highly regarded:Use of Micropay, Sage, Salesforce, Kimble and/or FinancialForce/CertiniaImplementation of payroll systems / set up of new companies within payroll systemsManagement of outsourced payroll services (relevant for non-Australian entities)Experience in a professional services environment desirable, particularly experience in a consulting companyTertiary qualification in Finance/Accounting or related field, a CPA/CA qualification desirableIntermediate – advanced Excel skillsExcellent attention to detail and organisation skillsStrong work ethic with the ability to adapt to change quicklyDemonstrable external stakeholder management skillsFinally, the important details...
