Patient Transport Officer – Emergency Medical Narrandera NSWNarrandera District Hospital provides emergency, medical, surgical, maternity (shared care model), and paediatric services.
Of the 34 beds, six are day surgery beds and four are bassinets.
Additional community services include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, diabetes education, dietetics, speech pathology, ACAT, community nurses, TACP, counseling, drug and alcohol, Aboriginal Maternal/Infant Midwife, Aboriginal Health Worker, child and family health and mental health.
What you will be doingAs a member of the Patient Transport Unit (PTU), the primary focus of this position is to provide safe, comfortable and cost-effective transportation services in scenarios that include:
Transfer of patients from MLHD Facilities to another facility, internal or external to the Local Health District.
Transport of patients from MLHD Facilities to medical appointments at another hospital or private sector provider.Assist, as required, NSW Ambulance with patient transfers to assist bed flow management.Provide service 24 hours a day as part of a 7 day rotating roster.The Patient Transport Officer will provide safe and timely transport of patients as directed by the Patient Transport Coordinator and contribute to the delivery of quality care and excellence in customer service within a cost-effective and efficient environment.
Patient Transport Officers will have completed training and maintain skills in the following:Advanced cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Guedels AirwaysBasic life support skillsAdvanced First AidPatient handling and lifting techniquesDriver trainingOxygen administration and transport and handling of specialized equipment (eg cardiac defibrillators)Trainee Patient Transport Officers will undertake the above training and workplace mentoring in order to successfully complete the requirements for appointment to a Patient Transport Officer.
Selection Criteria:Applicants to have an Advanced First Aid certificate.
Consideration may be given to applicants with a current Senior First Aid certificate, who are able to undertake the Advanced First Aid certificate at their own expense within the first 6 months of appointment.Current license to drive in NSW (Class C) with a proven safe driving record verified by a current Roads and Maritime Services license printout and a knowledge of and ability to undertake minor motor maintenance.Well-developed verbal and written communication skills with ability to work both independently and within a team.Please refer to the Position Description for the essential requirements and full selection criteria.
