This position forms part of our graduate recruitment strategy and the successful candidates will have the opportunity to be considered for a Graduate position at K&L Gates.
Supporting our Litigation & Dispute Resolution, Corporate and Real Estate practice areas, you will experience what it is like to work as a junior lawyer in our firm, get involved in interesting matters and work alongside well-known industry experts.
You may be required to perform a variety of tasks including:
Preparing documentation and correspondenceProviding general support to lawyers in the various practice areasAttending client meetingsAttending and observing in courtBusiness development and marketing-related tasksHardcopy and electronic filing, printing, scanning, collation and photocopying of all documents relating to mattersEnsuring all files are up to date and readily accessibleGeneral administrationWe truly believe that working together is better.
Your supervisor and buddy will help you settle in and you will work closely with the partners, special counsel, senior associates and lawyers in your team.
You will be provided with opportunities to build strong relationships, both within your team and the wider firm network.

About you We are seeking highly driven final year law students who have the passion and desire to become practicing lawyers.
You are hard-working and resilient in addition to having strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Your sense of teamwork and support is essential for this role.
To be successful you will be highly organized, able to work efficiently and use your initiative, as well as being proactive in your approach to tasks.
A high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office is expected as are excellent communication skills.
Prior experience working in a law firm is advantageous, but not essential.

In Australia, K&L Gates has approximately 300 fee earners located across four offices: Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.

As part of your application, you will be asked to upload your academic transcript, a cover letter, and for you to provide answers to set questions before providing us with details about your work experience, education and extra-curricular activities.
Successful applicants for interview will be notified by email.
You will experience a two-stage interview process.
Your first interview will be with one of our lawyers that are part of our recruitment team, as well as a member of our Human Resources team.
The second round is a further interview with partners from our recruitment team.
Offers for a paralegal role will be extended in March 2025.
We consider international students on a case-by-case basis.
If you are not an Australian citizen or do not have permanent residency, you will be asked to outline your visa status and Australian working rights.
To be eligible to apply for a K&L Gates paralegal program, you will be a law student, in your final year of study at university.
You must hold full Australian working rights and be available for an in-person paralegal program and must also be able to commence an in-person graduate position in March 2026.
