Job: 2024-115 | Full-Time | Fixed Term (until June 2026) | Dubbo This is an Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander identified position which is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established over 50 years ago in response to a protest movement.
We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT.
What Will You Do?In this role, you will be a key member of a supportive and passionate team.
As a Paralegal in the Aboriginal Child and Family Advocacy and Support practice, you will provide exceptional legal support to Aboriginal clients.
In this key role, you'll assist solicitors with complex tasks, manage caseloads, and support court proceedings by drafting essential documents.
Engaging with government and welfare agencies, you'll also contribute to important law reform initiatives.

Each Day, You Can Expect ToSupport solicitors by managing caseloads, attending court, drafting legal documents, conducting research, and assisting in client interviews.Liaise with agencies and contribute to law reform initiatives.Maintain confidentiality.Respect Aboriginal cultural practices.Who Are We Looking For?You are a highly skilled and motivated individual with a thorough understanding of the cultural, social, and historical needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
You will be able to demonstrate:
Identify as Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander.Formal paralegal qualifications, or currently undertaking a Law Degree.Understanding of the cultural and social needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, with respect for their practices.Familiarity with support and referral services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients in the Care and Protection system.Ability to prepare and deliver Community Legal Education and effectively liaise with government and non-government agencies.Strong research, problem-solving, and administrative abilities.Current NSW/ACT driver's license.Why Join Us?At ALS, you can discover a fulfilling career that truly makes an impact in the community.
