The Construction department is responsible for maintaining municipal residences and buildings, along with the construction of new enclosures, displays and structures.
They consist of skilled labourers, trade qualified individuals, administrators and project managers.
Painters at Australia Zoo report to the Projects Carpenter/2IC and upward toward the Chief Construction Officer and work alongside an experienced construction crew.
They are required to be multi-skilled and may, in some cases, have certificates or have specialised backgrounds.
A successful applicant will have a demonstrated ability to work in a high performance environment, with a capacity to deliver all requirements of the role, great work ethic and the ability to work to a high standard within a team.
Duties Include: Preparation and painting of existing painted and waxed surfaces on a planned maintenance cycle including but not limited to; walls, ceilings, fences, masonry, steel work.
Preparation and painting of new painted and waxed surfaces.
Minor plaster repairs as needed.
Minor rendering repairs as needed.
A sound knowledge of current painting systems and products.
General cleaning duties of work sites, work sheds and equipment.
Working out the quantity of materials needed for the job.
Assist to monitor and direct safety checks (staff, facilities and equipment).
Work within the guidelines of the health and safety procedures to ensure security and safety of self, staff, visitors and animals.
Other duties as requested by Senior Management and the Chief Construction Officer.
Essential Criteria: Must be physically fit, motivated and show good communication/organisational skills.
Must hold a current construction "White Card".
Ability to work well as a team and unsupervised.
Previous painting experience.
Experience operating tools and equipment related to position.
Hold current Manual Drivers Licence.
Available to work weekends, public holidays, and school holiday times.
Strong attention to detail and problem solving skills.
Well-developed organisational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks.
A high level of interpersonal skills and the ability to negotiate and communicate effectively with staff at all levels.
