The Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service (DYHS) was established in 1974 and is the largest Aboriginal community-controlled health service provider in Western Australia, providing care to over 20,000 Aboriginal patients across four clinics in East Perth, Mirrabooka, Maddington and Midland. Our staff enable the delivery of culturally responsive primary health services, focusing on prevention, early intervention, comprehensive care and care coordination including chronic disease management.

Salary packaging up to $15,900Study leaveEmployee Assistance Program12 days of personal leave per yearNAIDOC Day holidayAbout the Position The Paediatric Occupational Therapist provides critical support to Aboriginal children aged 0-18 and their families, aiming to enhance each child's development and overall quality of life. This role involves comprehensive involvement within a multidisciplinary team, focusing on seamless assessment, treatment, case management, and care planning for children facing neurodevelopmental and learning difficulties such as Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
This role will demonstrate a high level of cultural sensitivity and awareness. This includes an understanding and respect for the diverse cultures with particular emphasis on Aboriginal communities. The role will ensure that all practices and initiatives are conducted in a culturally inclusive manner that respects the traditions and lands of Aboriginal people. This role requires ongoing commitment to cultural competence training and development to enhance Derbarl practices and alignment with principles of equity and inclusivity.
** This position is a Maximum Term Part-Time (0.5 FTE) contract expiring 1 year from the start date, with possibility of extension ** Key Responsibilities Developmental Assessment and ReportingCaseload ManagementHolistic and Culturally Safe InterventionsResource managementCollaboration Care and External Support ServicesTeam Collaboration and CommunicationQualifications, Skills and Experience Bachelor or Master degree in Occupational Therapy (Essential)Proven experience in paediatric occupational therapy, particularly with neurodevelopmental disorders including FASD, ASD and Global Development Disorders.Demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity of cultural issues affecting Aboriginal communities.Experience in case management support to vulnerable families with complex issues that is child focused, family centred and trauma-informed.Proficiency in using healthcare databases particularly Communicare.Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritise effectively.Personal Attributes Strong commitment to and respect for Aboriginal culture and community values.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.High level of professional integrity, accountability and ethical standards.Statutory Requirements Must have valid Work with Children CheckRecent Police Clearance certificateMust have full registration as an Occupational Therapist as recognised by AHPRA registrationA copy of the full Job Description can be obtained by contacting People Services Team via email -
