Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health & Community Services is Canberra's only Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service. Located in the heart of Canberra at our recently purpose-built clinic and offices in Narrabundah, we provide trusted holistic healthcare to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities of the ACT and surrounding areas.
The role of the Paediatric Nurse is to enhance the clinical services offered at Winnunga AHCS for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children (0-16yrs of age) to improve physical and psychosocial health outcomes. It involves coordination, direct clinical care and the building of a therapeutic relationship with families.
Key responsibilities include: Deliver the Connected Beginnings program (a national program for 0 – 5 year olds)Coordinating the specialist paediatric clinicActive ongoing engagement with familiesProvide clinical care including growth monitoring, child health/developmental milestone checks, case conferencingLiaison with internal and external services and health professionals.Qualifications, skills and qualities we are looking for: Registered Nurse with a minimum of 3 years experience in paediatrics and/or maternal and child health nursing, and a passion for this areaSound and up-to-date working knowledge of child growth and developmentUnderstanding of issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing.Strong communication and effective relationship-building skills, with empathy and kindness.A demonstrated capacity to work effectively and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team and with external services including NDIS and child development services.Ability to operate with a dynamic and flexible approach to working with clients and families, negotiating complex social and health issuesAbility to work independently and proactively, with effective organisational skills to manage own workload.What we offer in return: a supportive, friendly and professional teamsalaries equivalent to ACT public sector nursing agreementsalary packaging (our not-for-profit status makes our employees eligible for an additional tax-free component which increases your take-home pay)support for professional developmentCome and join our team!
