VCID No. 878758 We are looking for an Orthotist to join our dedicated team at the Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS).
In this role, you will provide orthotic services to inpatients and outpatients, including assessment, design, manufacturing, and fitting of orthoses.
You will expand your skills and clinical knowledge through working closely with senior orthotists in our multi-disciplinary setting with a focus on delivery of safe, family-centered patient care. This includes, for example, the opportunity to be mentored by Senior Orthotists in assessment and response to complex patient presentations including lower limb, spinal, Rigo Cheneau and Boston style Orthoses.
Additional responsibilities include:
Offering orthotic clinical advice and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams for comprehensive patient care. Engaging in ongoing professional development and education to maintain and build capability, skills and knowledge. Educating patients and caregivers on post-tertiary care management and providing necessary review care plans. Contributing to quality improvement projects such as 3D printing implementation and evaluation of new technology to ensure our practices remain contemporary. A tertiary qualification in Prosthetics and Orthotics and eligibility for full membership of the Australian Orthotic Prosthetic Association (AOPA) is required for this role.
Experience in a paediatric setting will be highly regarded but is not required for this role.

About our Orthotics Department Our Orthotics service provides orthoses to children and young adults from birth to 16 years who require treatment for a wide range of conditions in both the inpatient (25%) and outpatient settings (75%). Our dedicated staff of clinical orthotists and technical officers support a number of multidisciplinary teams. Working directly with Medical, Allied health and Nursing teams (e.g., Orthopaedics and Rehab Medicine).
The Orthotics service provides orthoses for fracture management, scoliosis, orthoses to promote mobility, correction and prevention for various conditions. We craft innovative custom-made orthoses for the lower limbs, spine, as well as off-the-shelf products for hip dysplasia, fracture management, telepies. We have access to emerging technology including 3D scanners and software to support the production of orthoses. We are implementing 3D printing within the service as part of a current improvement project.
As part of building and developing the skills within our team, we have a creative and robust education program in which the whole team participates – this includes presentations from specialty departments, group training sessions, group fitting, a journal club, and case study analysis.
