Royal Australian Air Force – Sydney CBD NSWIf you are an experienced Orthopaedic Surgeon and are looking to take on your next challenge, this part-time role in the Air Force could be for you.Your part-time roleAs an Orthopaedic Surgeon in the Air Force Reserve, you'll provide specialist aviation medical capability support to the Australian Defence Force during ground and air operations.You'll work as part of the surgical team on the ground, caring for patients within the Aeromedical Evacuation System. The surgical capability provides a scalable approach from a small team of two surgeons, up to a larger team including orthopaedic, general, oral and maxillofacial, and neurosurgical.You can expect to assist with resuscitation and stabilisation for critical or unwell patients and integrating with other health professionals to provide comprehensive patient care. In the Air Force, you'll primarily care for the critically injured being evacuated predominantly by air.You can expect to work in several different environments both in Australia and overseas; with both Army and Navy colleagues, and civilians (such as those from AUSMAT) or those from other nations.This is an opportunity to further develop your skills and expertise and take on a rewarding part-time role in an environment like no other.CommitmentTalk to your careers coach about required service days each yearFit service around your existing work and family commitmentsTrainingYou'll be required to complete the Specialist Reserve Induction Course (SRIC) at RAAF Base East Sale.All Health Specialist Reserve members must also complete the Operational Health Support training, located at RAAF Base Amberley, as well as an online Health Officer Conversion Course.You will be offered further employment training to conduct your role as required.LocationSpecialist Reserve members may be recruited from any location within Australia. You will be posted to either a Joint Health or Air Force Health Services Wing for duty which may include exercises or deployments.Minimum RequirementsFor this role, you must be an Australian citizen, over 17 at the time of enlistment, be registered as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia, have no restrictions of practice, hold Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (Orthopaedics) and be registered as a specialist orthopaedic surgeon on AHPRA. Applicants must also be current in Advanced Life Support (ARC ALS1 or equivalent).
