Orthopaedic Surgeon

Details of the offer

If you are an experienced Orthopaedic Surgeon and are looking to take on your next challenge, this part-time role in the Air Force could be for you.
Your part-time role
As an Orthopaedic Surgeon in the Air Force Reserve, you'll provide specialist aviation medical capability support to the Australian Defence Force during ground and air operations.
You'll work as part of the surgical team on the ground, caring for patients within the Aeromedical Evacuation System. The surgical capability provides a scalable approach from a small team of two surgeons, up to a larger team including orthopaedic, general, oral and maxillofacial, and neurosurgical.
You can expect to assist with resuscitation and stabilisation for critical or unwell patients and integrating with other health professionals to provide comprehensive patient care. In the Air Force, you'll primarily care for the critically injured being evacuated predominantly by air.
You can expect to work in several different environments both in Australia and overseas; with both Army and Navy colleagues, and civilians (such as those from AUSMAT) or those from other nations.
This is an opportunity to further develop your skills and expertise and take on a rewarding part-time role in an environment like no other.
The pay you receive in the Air Force Reserve goes straight into your pocket with no deductions for tax, and it increases as you gain seniority and experience.
You will earn a good salary from day one, and on completion of your initial military training you could earn a tax-free daily rate of $762.
Commitment
Talk to your careers coach about required service days each year. Fit service around your existing work and family commitments. The Air Force provides special resources to help you approach your employer about your ambition to serve as a Reservist.
Training
You'll be required to complete the Specialist Reserve Induction Course (SRIC) at RAAF Base East Sale. All Health Specialist Reserve members must also complete the Operational Health Support training, located at RAAF Base Amberley, as well as an online Health Officer Conversion Course. You will be offered further employment training to conduct your role as required. Location
Specialist Reserve members may be recruited from any location within Australia. You will be posted to either a Joint Health or Air Force Health Services Wing for duty which may include exercises or deployments.
Life in the Air Force
When you join the Air Force Reserve, you'll enjoy the satisfaction of giving something back to Australia, while benefitting from tax-free daily pay, a flexible time commitment, rewarding outdoors work, a supportive team environment and friendships that last a lifetime.
In addition, there's the meaningful experiences that come with serving your country. From participating in Air Force exercises and operations to providing support to communities in need, this is your opportunity to take on a part-time role with many rewarding dimensions.
