Position Location: Sydney, NSW
Employment Status: Full time – 35 hours per week and is subject to a nine day fortnight roster
Classification and Salary range: Grade 3 level 1 $92,618.58 pa (plus superannuation) to grade 3 level 5 $105,794.44 pa (plus superannuation).
Position reports to: Manager Metropolitan

The position requires the ability to attend to the needs of the membership in all industry sectors covered by the Union but will primarily be dealing with Local Government.
You will be required to develop and implement organising plans, which includes developing, educating and supporting workplace delegates and activists, increasing levels of membership and activism, including the direct recruitment of new members and assisting the effective operation and projects of delegates' committees. You will also identify organising opportunities in the workplace and assist members and delegates in the handling of such issues. Additionally, you will assist members and delegates in the development and negotiation of enterprise/workplace agreements, contribute to campaigns and operations of the USU, and work with members to develop and implement union policy objectives while being able to perform some advocacy.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITY ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
High standard of work ethic and self-motivation;
Demonstrated ability to establish, develop and maintain working relationships with all relevant stakeholders including members, delegates, managers, and employers;
Demonstrated ability to analyse and resolve industrial conflict;
Extensive knowledge of awards and industrial relations legislation impacting on members;
Demonstrated commitment to the principles of trade unionism;
Completion of relevant Union Delegates Training course/s and/or tertiary qualifications in industrial relations or human resource management;
Ability to negotiate industrial workplace agreements;
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
Computer literate with intermediate skills in Word, Excel, and electronic mail systems;
RTA class C drivers licence;
Well-developed research skills and administration experience;
Ability to organise, recruit and plan campaigns;
Demonstrated understanding of and ability to deal with equal employment opportunity, discrimination, and harassment issues;
Demonstrated ability in preparation of correspondence and reports.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
Experience in advocacy before Commissions and Tribunals;
Previously held or competently completed a minimum 3 months secondment to an Organiser's position with the USU, or proven successful experience as a Union Official;
Completed tertiary studies in advocacy.
