The Company Our client is an independent mining and exploration company currently developing a world class portfolio of mining operations and greenfield projects. With a strong reputation for success, they have a number of strong contracts in place and are now looking to increase production and continue with sustainable growth into the future.
The Opportunity An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Environmental Scientist to join their team in North QLD. In this autonomous role, you will be responsible for managing compliance with environmental regulations on site. You'll provide crucial advice and support to line managers, employees, and contractors, ensuring that environmental standards are embedded in daily operations and the long-term strategic development of the mine.
As the go-to expert for all environmental matters, you'll have the opportunity to advance your skills while driving initiatives that align with sustainability goals. This position offers excellent independence, allowing you to take ownership of environmental practices and make a real impact.
In this role you will be responsible for: Conduct all necessary environmental monitoring in compliance with the mine's legal requirements, industry standards, and regulatory deadlines. Support mine water release events and respond to environmental incidents. Collect, review, and prepare data for various reporting obligations. Manage environmental compliance in the field and conduct regular site inspections. Lead the planning and execution of fieldwork, including contractor management, with guidance from the Corporate Environmental Team. Monitor and manage biodiversity offsets, with support from the Corporate Environmental Team. Assist other QCoal sites with environmental monitoring, as needed. Utilise ArcGIS to assist in issuing permits for disturbance and support environmental management efforts. Oversee environmental projects, including site rehabilitation, with mentorship from the Corporate Environmental Team. What You'll Bring: Need to be based in Mackay, Bowen, Airlie Beach or close to. Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or equivalent. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Attention to detail.
