Southern Adelaide Local Health Network - Flinders Medical Centre - Margaret Tobin Centre Salary $58,709 - $63,154 p.a. (Pro Rata) OPS2 | Part Time 13.87 hours p.w. - Ongoing Are you an experienced Peer Specialist ready to take on a rewarding role in the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network? The Margaret Tobin Centre is a 38 bed mental health inpatient area consisting of an 8 bed Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit and two Acute Care Units that can admit a total of 30 consumers.
This role will include line management, coordination and leadership of the nursing team and/or multi-disciplinary team activities, including where relevant, such local resource management as to achieve continuity and quality of patient/client care and outcomes.
About the role: Reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager, as the Peer Specialist you will be a key component of recovery oriented mental health service delivery. Duties for the role will include:
Draw from personal lived experience of mental health challenges and recovery journey to role model recovery and act as a recovery champion, Provide guidance and support to consumers as they self-define and self-determine their mental health experience, narratives and identities, Assist to increase cultural safety in the mental health care experience of diverse consumers, including First Nations Australians and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities, Support consumers to articulate their needs and goals, and the way in which they want to receive support, and advocate for the inclusion of this in care planning and service delivery. About you: Skills in building connected and authentic trusting relationships with consumers and in modelling relatable recovery pathways, Strong advocacy and partnership building skills to apply in a clinical mental health environment working within multidisciplinary teams, Personal lived experience of mental health challenges and recovery, Understanding and/or experience of the challenges associated with experiencing acute mental illness and the implications for personal recovery.
