About the Role: The RCH Ophthalmology Department is seeking a Consultant Ophthalmologist with a subspecialty in Ocular Genetics to join the team in an ongoing capacity for one session per month.
You will be responsible for delivering paediatric ophthalmic care to referred inpatients and outpatients of the Royal Children's Hospital Ophthalmology Department.
You will work in a supportive team environment, comprising of ophthalmologists, orthoptists and junior medical staff.
Additional responsibilities within the role include (but are not limited to) providing active clinical supervision and training to junior medical staff, medical students and allied health colleagues and students.
We are seeking an ophthalmologist with experience and strong clinical skills in paediatric eye care provision in the fields of ocular genetics and retinal pathology, who has a positive mindset and demonstrates strong skills in communication and collaboration.
What you'll achieve: Providing paediatric ophthalmic care to referred inpatients and outpatients in the RCH Ophthalmology outpatient clinicProviding interdepartmental consultation service as required to patients under the care of RCH and to liaise in a timely and effective manner with internal colleaguesWorking within the scope of practice relevant to the role - which will be determined with the Director, Department of OphthalmologyBeing actively involved in supervision and training of ophthalmology registrars, ophthalmology fellows, medical students, orthoptists and orthoptic studentsContributing to department meetings and auditing processesInvolvement in department clinical research activitiesKeeping accurate, timely and concise clinical documentation of all episodes of patient care in the patient's medical recordYour skills and experience: Legal qualifications as a medical practitionerFRANZCO or equivalentExperience in paediatric ophthalmologyA high level of relevant ophthalmic clinical skills in the outpatient and operating settingsMinimum 5 years experience in ocular geneticsExcellent communication skills with children, their families, and all levels of staff and a positive attitude and demonstrated capacity to work harmoniously and collaboratively within a teamWhat we offer: Salary Packaging – Increase your take home pay!Parkville location and close to public transportOther requirements: Current National Criminal Record Check, or willing to obtainValid Working with Children CheckCompliance with RCH's "Staff Immunisation - Prevention of Vaccine Preventable Diseases" procedureApplication process: To apply, you will need a resume and a tailored cover letter outlining your skills, experience, and suitability for the position in line with the requirements of the position description.
