The Department of Transport and Main Roads, North Coast Region, is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join the Operations Team as an AO4 Operations Officer (Traffic Investigations). This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to ensuring a safe and efficient road network in the North Coast Region by optimizing the use of existing infrastructure and supporting road safety.
About the Role:
As an Operations Officer (Traffic Investigations), you will conduct investigations into road infrastructure and contribute to strategies that enhance the safety and efficiency of the regional road network. This role is integral to managing and improving the performance of traffic signal operations, incident management, and the operation of static traffic control devices.
Key Responsibilities: Investigate and report on road infrastructure conditions to identify safety deficiencies, signage needs, and potential improvements. Participate in road safety audits in accordance with regional policies and Australian Standards, recommending remedial actions. Assist in managing projects stemming from Road Safety Audits, signage programs, crash investigations, and more. Prepare and present detailed reports on road safety investigations to support road infrastructure programs and maintain accurate regional records. Provide expert technical advice on traffic management practices to regional staff and external stakeholders. Develop design drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for approval. Represent the region in consultations with key stakeholders including politicians, emergency services, and the general public on traffic safety issues. Draft responses to public inquiries and ministerial correspondence related to traffic concerns. Reporting Structure:
This position reports directly to the Principal Engineer (Civil) and has no direct reports.
Desirable Qualifications: Current Class 'C' Driver's Licence. Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution. Completion of a recognized Road Safety Audit course for registration as a road safety auditor. Pay Scale: AO4.1 - $57.92 per hour AO4.2 - $59.84 per hour AO4.3 - $61.76 per hour AO4.4 - $63.69 per hour
Pay will be based on experience and suitability, as assessed by the Hiring Manager. Working Conditions: Maximum of 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Flexibility to work between 6 am and 6 pm on office days, and between 6 am and 10 pm for remote work, under a Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA). Overtime must be pre-approved by the Contractor's Line Manager. Travel to construction sites may be required and will be discussed upon contract appointment.
