About the National Film and Sound Archive The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) is Australia's audiovisual archive, collecting, preserving, and sharing audiovisual media. The collection dates back to 1935, making it one of the world's oldest audiovisual collections. The NFSA is undergoing digital transformation to establish itself as Australia's most dynamic cultural organisation, focusing on rebuilding its curatorial workforce and enhancing digitisation capabilities.
About the Team The Collection Digitisation Section is part of the Collection Preservation Branch, responsible for the digital preservation of historical film, video, audio, documents, and artefacts within the national collection.
The Opportunity The Operations Manager will lead a team of collection digitisation professionals, requiring a strong technical knowledge of audio-visual operations and program delivery skills. The role demands a customer-focused approach and an understanding of industry directions in film, audio, broadcast, digital post-production, and archival sectors.
Job DescriptionUnder broad direction, this position is responsible for delivering the following functions:
Lead the team to meet targets and key performance indicators, managing resources to develop and update workflows.Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, providing expertise in audiovisual preservation and post-production services for NFSA projects.Support supervisory staff and collaborate across the NFSA to develop training programs.Implement the section's business plans, reporting requirements, and budgets.Monitor and evaluate costings and productivity, identifying risks and solutions.Work with Senior Management on workforce planning processes.Selection Criteria The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Proven leadership experience in a related industry and/or cultural environment.Knowledge of best practice audiovisual digital preservation methodologies.Ability to develop innovative solutions and workflows to improve operational capability.High-level project management skills, including complex procurement.Strong negotiation and communication skills to maintain relationships with stakeholders.Desired Skills and ExperienceRelevant tertiary degree or technical qualifications and/or equivalent experience in an industry, technical, or cultural environment.How to Apply When applying, please provide a written application addressing each Selection Criteria along with your current resume.
