The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Open Cut Examiner to provide effective production and safety leadership to the project production crew ensuring that production targets are met at Pembroke Resource's new autonomous project in the Bowen Basin - the Olive Downs Complex. Pembroke Resource's Olive Downs Complex is a greenfield project located 40 kilometres South-west of Moranbah and is due to commence mining operations in early 2023.Thiess has recently been awarded a five-year contract to deliver full-service mining operations, including mine planning overburden removal, drill and blast, load and haul, water management and rehabilitation as well as the construction of the mine infrastructure. As Open Cut Examiner, you will consistently look to identify hazards and risks through regular inspections, audits and behavioural observations. Working an even-time 7/7 roster , your duties will include: Assist the SSE in implementing the Safety and Health Management System (SHMS) to maintain compliance in accordance with all the relevant legislation and strive beyond compliance. Play an active role in all incident investigations to ensure the root causes are identified, documented and implement corrective actions in consultation with relevant parties. Assist in developing, reviewing, and auditing the SHMS relating to the mining activities in and around the mine excavation. Lead, coach, and develop team members by setting clear expectations, monitoring performance, and mentoring team members whilst reinforcing correct behaviours and disciplinary procedures. Liaise with Mining Supervisors to ensure all issues relating to safety, compliance, and production are dealt with promptly. Actively participate in the daily pre-start meeting with the production crew. Inspect surface mine excavation areas before the start of mining activities to ensure acceptable risk levels. Routinely audit to ensure that only qualified personnel perform tasks requiring authorisation and that equipment is used in accordance with its design parameters and correct operating techniques. About you You will have an Open Cut Examiners Certificate of Competency for Surface Coal Mines and proven experience working as an OCE in an open-cut mining environment.
