The Department of Ocean Engineering and Marine Sciences at Florida Tech seeks post-doc in Meteorology/Hydrometeorology.
Under the supervision of Drs.
Steven Lazarus and Pallav Ray, the research topics to be explored include the physical processes through which a warmer climate influences the sea breeze and heat stress, and how changes in large-scale circulations influence local-to-regional precipitation patterns and river flooding along Florida's east coast.
The work involves a combination of observations, and high-resolution modeling in collaboration with Drs.
Jiali Wang, William Pringle, and Haochen Tan from the Department of Energy's Argonne National Laboratory.
The position will be located at Florida Tech.
The Department of Ocean Engineering and Marine Sciences (OEMS) at Florida Tech has undergraduate and graduate degree programs that include atmospheric, ocean, and life sciences, as well as ocean engineering.
OEMS has 26 faculty members, approximately 300 undergraduate students, and 100 and students.Qualification/Responsibilities for the Postdoc position:The candidate should have a in Atmospheric Science, Hydrology, Engineering, or a related field with experience in atmospheric modeling and high-performance computing.
The primary qualifications include: (i) The ability to analyze large datasets and conduct downscaling experiments over urban areas for thermal mapping and for flood forecasting using high-resolution models.
Therefore, experience with global or regional modeling will be preferred; (ii) A proficiency with one or more programming languages (, Fortran, Matlab, Python, R, NCL, etc.
); (iii) An ability to work independently and to collaborate with team members from diverse backgrounds.
Salary will be commensurate with experience.
The position is initially for one year with an extension of up to three years based on satisfactory performance.
