Physiotherapy, OT & Rehabilitation (Healthcare & Medical)
The Allied Mental Health Unit of our prestigious Canberra client is seeking an OT who has 3-5 years experience in working with Adult Mental Health Patients.

The Unit is a 40 bed in-patient unit for Adults experiencing moderate to severe mental health issues.
The Unit strives to provide high quality mental health care, guided by the principles of recovery.
The aim is to provide collaborative care involving the person, their carers and other key services.

What will you do?

Under limited direction of the Allied Health Manager and Allied Health Clinical Lead you will be expected to provide:
Clinical Assessment and Intervention: Conduct thorough Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions, focusing on enhancing Patients independence and quality of life.
Address daily living skills, community integration, personal care, and safety both at home and in the community.
Skills Development and Training: Facilitate skills for independent living such as time management, medication management, and safe community interaction.
Offer practical training in personal care (e.g., hygiene and grooming) and manage activities of daily living.
Educational and Therapeutic Programs: Provide educational programs and treatment groups focused on self-awareness, assertiveness, stress management, and interpersonal skills.
Work with Patients to identify and engage in meaningful leisure activities.
Sensory Processing Evaluation and Treatment: Assess and address any sensory processing deficits that may impact your Patients daily lives.
Collaboration and Communication: Actively involve carers, families, GPs, and other providers in Patients recovery planning as appropriate.
Risk Management and Documentation: Adhere to risk management procedures, identifying and mitigating risks effectively.
Maintain accurate clinical records and administrative data in compliance with standards.
Professional Supervision and Development: Participate in supervision, professional development, and performance reviews.
Supervise and train junior staff, students, and support personnel.
Quality Improvement and Clinical Governance: Engage in quality improvement initiatives, research, and health promotion.
Educate both internal and external stakeholders on relevant topics.
Additional Duties: Undertake other organisational tasks relevant to this role as directed.

The successful Candidate will demonstrate the following attributes:

Mandatory requirements:
You must:
Hold a Relevant Degree (or recognised equivalent) in Occupational Therapy and be registered with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia and a minimum of 3 years (preferably 5) experience working professionally as an Occupational Therapist.
Eligible for professional membership of Occupational Therapy Australia.
Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Hold a current Driver's Licence.
Key Selection criteria:
These are the key selection criteria for how you will be assessed in conjunction with your resumé and experience:
Proven clinical seniority and expertise as an Occupational Therapist in collaborative individual and group assessment, planning, treatment and intervention for people with complex mental illnesses or disorders, incorporating an understanding of principles of recovery and implications for practice.
Demonstrated ability to provide clinical supervision to staff and students in accordance with Occupational Therapy Board of Australia requirements.
Proven effective communication skills including ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and to liaise and consult with carers, GPs and relevant agencies.
Demonstrated ability to evaluate occupational therapy and/or psychosocial intervention programs through quality improvement initiatives, and to plan and develop the service to meet the needs of people.
Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience.
Displays behaviour consistent with values of being reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
