The Parks and Gardens branch plays a key role in the coordination of the delivery of horticultural, landscaping, and arboriculture activities and schedules for the designated work area.
About the Role: As Nursery Services Officer, you will be responsible for the care, management, and operation of public open space, foreshore reserves, and recreational areas to enable active and passive recreation and the preservation of natural landscape and environment features.
You will manage day-to-day operations, implement the Nursery Operating Procedure and Nursery Management Plan, and inspect and accept delivery of nursery tree and plant stock. You will provide efficient service, dispatch, and sourcing of high-quality plants required by Parks and Gardens, contractors, and other council departments. Additionally, you will ensure that all nursery equipment and other goods used and/or stored on site are maintained to a manufacturer's standard.
Minimum Requirements: You will possess a Certificate III in Horticulture with competencies relevant to the position or relevant demonstrated trade experience, and demonstrated experience in a production and/or retail nursery including management of day-to-day operations and propagation techniques. You will also need a Current "C" class driver's licence and a 30215 Qld – General Safety Induction (Construction Industry) – White Card.
Furthermore, you should have a thorough understanding of AS2303:2018 Tree Stock for Landscape use & AS4373:2007 Pruning of Amenity Trees, along with demonstrated experience and ability to provide sound advice on plant selection and garden layout. You should be able to coordinate the delivery and maintenance of operational and project-based horticultural, nursery, and landscaping functions.
Essential to your success is physical agility and the fitness, strength, and dexterity to carry out labouring and frequent heavy lifting & bending. Appointment to this position is subject to completion of a pre-employment medical assessment and the satisfactory completion of a Criminal History Check.
